Chemical peels are customized to meet patients’ healthcare concerns. Chemical peels involve gentle exfoliation of the skin, so it is ready for the peel. We then apply the appropriate chemical solution to the skin, allowing some skin cells to start sloughing off immediately. The skin is cleansed, and patients are sent home with proper at-home care instructions.
For a chemical peel to be the most effective, we recommend patients follow specific at-home care. It is normal for the skin to appear red and can scale. We do not recommend wearing makeup during this time to allow the skin to heal correctly. We will provide at-home cream to use to limit scaling and itching as the outermost layer of skin sheds itself over time.

Medium chemical peels will take about two weeks to heal. The skin will be swollen and red and can worsen for the first two days. Aftercare ointment must be appropriately applied and needs to be soaked for several days to aid in the healing process. Patients need to avoid exposure to the sun and will need to visit our office for a follow-up treatment.
We will provide a thick moisturizer that needs to be applied for the first two weeks. Patients need to avoid sun exposure for three to six months to avoid damaging the skin. Patients will need to come in for multiple follow-up visits to ensure the treatment is working effectively.
